Solar Water Heater or Electric Geyser: Which One Costs Less

For hot water, an electric geyser uses a fair amount of electricity every day. A solar water heater costs more at the start, but it can reduce your electricity cost.

Electric geyser:
1. Lower price and easy to install.
2. It uses electricity each time it runs, so it affects your bill.
3. Fine for a small family or light use.

Solar water heater:
1. Higher upfront price.
2. Water is heated by the sun, so electricity use can drop.
3. It needs open, shade-free space on the roof.
4. On cloudy or cold days water may be less hot, so many models also have an electric backup heater.

How to decide:
1. Count how many people use hot water every day.
2. Check how many months of good sun your area gets.
3. Divide the total cost by the electricity saving to see in how many years it pays back.
4. Always ask about warranty and service. The tank and the tubes can have separate warranties.

If your family is large and you have an open roof, do consider a solar heater.
