The Echo Dot (5th Gen) is a small, round smart speaker with Alexa. You can play music, set alarms and timers, and control smart devices by voice.
Details at the India launch (per FoneArena and Business Today):
1. A 1.73-inch front-firing speaker; Amazon says deeper bass and clearer vocals than the older model.
2. Built-in motion and temperature sensors, which can switch on a light or an AC automatically.
3. A mic-off button.
4. Dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh and a Matter controller.
5. Colours: Black, Blue and White.
6. Works on its own, or as a Bluetooth speaker paired with your phone.
Things to check:
1. There is no 3.5mm line-out.
2. At launch, Matter setup worked only through the Alexa app on Android. Check the Amazon page for the current position.
3. The launch price was reported as Rs 4,999 (MRP Rs 5,499). That is old information; check today's price on the Amazon page.
4. It is useful for controlling smart bulbs, plugs and similar devices by voice, but check first that the device works with Alexa.
